Helping accomplished entrepreneurs lead themselves as well as they lead their companies

You've mastered the external game.
The internal one is harder.

EO and YPO Forum members are among the most capable executives in the world. They've built companies, led teams, managed capital, navigated markets, and solved problems most people will never face.

But even the most accomplished entrepreneurs quietly carry something that company results don't fully reflect: the internal pressure of leadership.

Reactivity in high-stakes moments. A critical inner voice that never quite quiets. Decisions clouded by urgency or fear. The growing distance between professional success and personal peace. The feeling of carrying more than anyone around you knows.

None of that is weakness. It's the honest cost of operating at a high level without the tools to manage what's happening inside. This retreat is designed specifically for that gap.

"High-performing entrepreneurs already know how to run a business. This retreat is about what happens inside them while they're doing it."

Designed exclusively for established EO and YPO Forums with trust, shared history, and a readiness to go deeper.

This is not a keynote. Not a workshop. Not a standard Forum retreat. Robert coaches each member on their own real goals — and the trust your Forum has already built makes that coaching more powerful than anything that could happen in a one-on-one setting.

The Coaching

Most retreat facilitators guide a process.
Robert coaches people.

Robert Pal has spent years coaching entrepreneurs through the things they don't talk about in the boardroom. His private practice is full. The people he works with don't come back because of a methodology.

They come back because of what happens when Robert's full attention is on them — on their specific challenge, their specific pattern, their specific opportunity.

That quality of attention is what he brings into every Forum retreat. Every member receives it. And because it happens inside a Forum — in front of people who have known each other for years — the impact doesn't stay with one person. It moves through the entire room.

"You have a unique way of listening, framing the situation, stretching the mind, and respecting my experience. Your supportive, nonjudgmental touch allows me to be more comfortable, creating a space leading to my breakthroughs."
James F. Kenefick  ·  Former Chair, YPO International Corporate Social Responsibility
"My time with Robert transforms and shifts my paradigm. With his unique perspective I'm able to view situations with greater awareness and come up with alternative responses."
Aubrey Winfield  ·  President, Orange Lounge Group of Companies
"Robert is that rare combination of business coach and healer in one. His way of listening helped my insights and awareness unfold, enabling change and growth in my personal life as well as creating the structure I needed for more success and less stress at work."
Susan Gottlieb  ·  VP and Wealth Advisor, Toronto

Robert has a unique gift in his ability to easily relate to people and create the type of environment of trust where true openness occurs. Our Forum flourished under his leadership. He brings a sense of humor, a true sensitivity rooted in personal experience and a caring approach that makes him a great Forum Resource and coach. I am currently the moderator of my YPO Forum and am incorporating many of the lessons learned under Robert's leadership.

How the Retreat Works

This is not a workshop.
You experience the framework — you don't just learn it.

The retreat moves in a deliberate rhythm of coaching, then teaching, then more coaching. Every concept lands immediately because it is introduced in the context of a real person's real situation.

  • Opening Every member answers one question: "By the end of this year, what do you want to be different in your life?" This becomes your individual goal for the retreat.
  • Live Coaching Robert coaches members one at a time on their real goal — no role play, no hypotheticals. The rest of the Forum watches, listens, and learns from what unfolds.
  • Forum as Co-Coach At key moments, Robert hands the floor to the Forum. Peers who share years of history can ask the exact question that unlocks what someone has been circling around for months.
  • Experiential Teaching Frameworks are introduced after the live coaching. Because members just witnessed the concept in action, the theory lands with immediate, personal clarity.
  • Closing Each member leaves with a concrete plan and a specific commitment made in front of the exact people who will ask them about it at next month's meeting.
The Business Issue Is Often Not Just a Business Issue

High-performing entrepreneurs already know how to run a business. This retreat is about what happens inside them while they are doing it. Every pressure a founder carries has an outer dimension and an inner one. This retreat works with both.

We address the cash flow anxiety that follows you home, the imposter syndrome and inner critic that get louder as you scale, and the hidden cost your success may be exacting on your family. We move beyond standard business updates to tackle the reactivity, burnout, and isolation that actually drive your executive performance.

The Self-Leadership Retreat helps members look beneath the surface issue and ask a revealing question:

What is happening inside me while I am dealing with this?

That is where the deeper work begins.

The Self-Leadership Framework

A practical inner operating system —
experienced live, not taught in theory.

The framework unfolds through the day in three stages. Each is introduced after a coaching moment, when members have just witnessed it in action and it lands with immediate, personal clarity.

I

Awareness

Noticing what is happening inside before being taken over by it. Slowing down enough to see the thought before it becomes the action — and recognizing patterns of emotion, sensation, impulse, and automatic reaction.

MindfulnessPresenceNervous System
II

Understanding

Making sense of what you've noticed. Identifying cognitive distortions, thought loops, and protective patterns. Recognizing fear, shame, urgency, and avoidance as information — not commands to obey.

Cognitive ToolsInner CriticEmotional Intelligence
III

Self-Leadership

Learning to relate to your inner world with calm, curiosity, compassion, clarity, courage, and choice. Moving from automatic reaction to deliberate response in the moments that matter most, at work and at home.

Retreat Format

Available as a one-day
or two-day retreat.

Both formats are fully facilitated, individually focused, and shaped around your Forum's members. Robert travels to facilitate retreats across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He meets with Forum leadership before the retreat to understand your group and design the experience accordingly.

Option One

One Day

A complete, high-impact experience. Every member is coached on their personal goal. The full Self-Leadership framework is introduced. Everyone leaves with clarity, practical tools, and a concrete commitment.

Option Two

Two Days

Everything in the one-day format, with more depth. More coaching time per member. More space for personal and relationship themes. And enough time for the Self-Leadership framework to shift from concept to lived experience.

What Each Member Leaves With

Practical tools, not theory.
Insights you can use the next day.

Because the retreat is built around each person's individual goal, what they leave with is specific and immediately applicable — not generic leadership lessons.

  • Clarity on the one thing they most want to change — and a plan to move toward it
  • More space between trigger and response in the moments that matter most
  • A healthier relationship with the Inner Critic and imposter syndrome
  • Stronger communication with partners, family, and teams
  • A commitment made in front of the Forum — and the accountability that comes with it
  • Members leave with a more sustainable way to lead — less dependent on adrenaline, pressure, and willpower, and more grounded in calm, clarity, and conscious choice.

About Robert Pal

He has sat
where you sit.

Robert Pal is an executive coach, retreat facilitator, strategist, and former founder. What distinguishes him in this work is not his methodology alone — it's the lived experience behind it.

He founded and led Lapor Inc. and Illusions International, an international fashion business — with firsthand knowledge of what it means to carry growth, creative risk, financial pressure, team dynamics, and the personal cost of responsibility at a high level. He has not read about these pressures from the outside. He has felt them from the inside.

He studied at the MIT Sloan Entrepreneurial Master's Program and the University of Toronto. As an executive coach, trained Forum Moderator, and former President of the EO Toronto chapter, Robert understands the unique dynamics of Forum. He knows the difference between what a Forum is designed to do and what it is capable of when the facilitation is right.

His facilitation style is structured, direct, warm, and non-judgmental. He does not lecture. He listens precisely, identifies patterns quickly, asks the questions others haven't asked, and helps individuals and groups extract real insight from real situations — not fabricated exercises.

Retreat FAQ

Common questions from Forum
moderators and retreat chairs.

What is Self-Leadership and why does it matter for entrepreneurs?

Self-Leadership is the ability to notice, understand, and consciously direct your own inner experience rather than being driven by it. For entrepreneurs, this means recognizing the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that shape decisions under pressure, and learning to respond with calm, clarity, and choice rather than automatic reaction. It doesn't eliminate pressure. It changes your relationship to it.

Does this address imposter syndrome and the inner critic for entrepreneurs?

Yes, directly. Navigating the inner critic and imposter syndrome is one of Robert's core coaching specialties — precisely because these experiences are so intensely common among high-performing entrepreneurs. While rarely discussed openly, these internal pressures drive many executive decisions. This retreat addresses both using practical, research-backed tools that help members recognize how these patterns operate, understand the protective function they serve, and learn to lead them rather than be driven by them.

Is one day enough, or is two days recommended?

Both formats deliver real value. The one-day retreat provides a focused, high-impact introduction to Self-Leadership with practical tools and clear commitments. The two-day retreat allows for greater depth, more individual coaching, more time on personal and relationship themes, stronger Forum bonding, and detailed implementation planning. Robert can help Forum leadership choose the right format based on your group's goals and current dynamics.

Will this feel like therapy? Our Forum members are skeptical of that kind of work.

It won't. Robert's approach is direct, practical, grounded, and businesslike without being cold or clinical. He speaks the language of entrepreneurs because he is one. The retreat focuses on patterns that affect performance, leadership, relationships, and decision-making. It is personal work but it is framed and facilitated in a way that resonates with accomplished, skeptical, pragmatic executives.

Is this retreat specifically designed for EO and YPO Forums?

This retreat was designed specifically for Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) and Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) Forums. It is not a general leadership retreat adapted for entrepreneurs. The methodology, facilitation approach, and group dynamics are built around how Forums actually work: trust, confidentiality, shared history and vulnerability. Robert brings direct experience as a former Forum Moderator and former chapter president. He uses the Forum model as the foundation for a deeper, more structured Self-Leadership experience.

How far in advance do we need to book our retreat?

Robert works with a select number of groups each year, so it is recommended to reach out as soon as your Forum has a target date in mind. To start the conversation, email robert@robertpal.com with a brief overview of your group, what you hope to achieve, and your proposed timing and location. From there, Robert will schedule a call to ensure mutual fit.
